Tree Felling Worcester

Tree felling is when a tree is completely removed. Tree cutting / pruning is when we reduce the overall size of your tree to keep it healthy and stop it from becoming a problem in your garden or property.

We can either straight fell the tree by making a series of cuts at the base of the tree to allow it to fall in a particular direction. Sometimes we use winches to assist in this process. This can only be done if there is plenty of room.

For most domestic tree surgery we sectional fell the tree. This is done by climbing the tree and taking off branches individually and then cutting down the main trunk piece by piece. We also have an access platform which is useful for working on dead or dangerous trees.

Tree Pruning Worcester

Tree pruning is needed for a wide variety of different reasons. Overgrown trees can become unsafe, they can block essential light to other trees, shrubs, plants and your general garden area. You will often need to have your trees pruned to reduce weighty limbs which are susceptible to breaking in the wind and to minimise general damage from tall trees falling in high winds and storms.

Crown Lift, Crown Clean, Crown Reduction, Crown Thinning

  • Crown reduction – is the trade term for reducing your tree in size. Pruning is often different for certain types of tree. Generally, branches to be reduced or shortened should be at least one-third diameter to the one being removed. This ensures that the remaining branch is sufficient to cope with the energy being sent to it and doesn’t produce a multitude of shoots which are weaker than natural growth. When pruning is done correctly Your tree will look natural without the explosive regrowth seen with the other methods listed here. The reduction will reduce overall height and width to a tree.
  • Crown thinning – This involves removing branches to make the tree appear less dense. It helps reduce leaf coverage and allow light to filter through the canopy. The overall shape of the tree remains the same. Thinning should occur evenly over the canopy.
  • Crown lift – is removing the lower branches of the tree to allow more height clearance. The upper part of the canopy remains the same.
  • Crown clean – this is when the inner canopy of the tree is inspected for any branches that are rubbing or crisscrossing each other, any branches that are dead or have other defects are removed. The overall shape of the tree stays the same.
  • Deadwooding – simply removes any dead branches on the tree. This is usually done as a matter of course if any aerial work is being undertaken.

Tree Pollarding Worcestershire

Pollarding and framework pruning is the most severe form of pruning. It means removing all leaf-bearing branches down to a singular stump or sometimes several stump like branches. This method is not suitable for all species and can cause some trees to die, occasionally after a number of years of regrowth. Sometimes the large wounds created by pollarding do not heal properly which introduces rot and decay into the branch. The regrowth from pollarding is explosive with many shoots bursting out from the pollard points. If the tree has got too large for its location we may advise the removal of the tree and a replant with a more suitable specimen. This is sometimes more cost effective in the long run.

Tree Preservation Orders

We will ensure that all work is carried out legally.

TPO stands for tree preservation order. These orders are controlled by the local authority. They can be a single order on an individual tree or block orders on several trees or woodlands. If your tree has a TPO then permission is required from the local authority tree officer for pretty much any work to be carried out on your tree with the exception of deadwooding. If you do not get the proper permission you could be in for a fine. Some clients say “we own the tree so we don’t need permission’ or ‘we planted the tree so it won’t be protected’. We can ensure it is OK for you to take a tree away. Many trees are not protected, it’s a simple process to check so we check as a matter of course to protect you and us. If it turns out there is a TPO in place we can advise or even fill out the application for removal or cutting on your behalf. This process can take a few weeks so if the tree removal is urgent allow yourself extra time. Conservation areas require approximately 6 weeks notice to be given to the local authority before tree works are undertaken. Here at Yarrantons tree services, we will always do everything we can to make the process easy and stress-free.
